Filippo Torre
Biodata
Filippo Torre works as a researcher in Sociology at the University of Genoa, where he also teaches Sociology of Cultural and Communication Processes. He holds a Master’s degree in African and Asian Studies from the University of Pavia and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Genoa.
He has conducted field research in Palestine, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and along the French-Italian border. His research interests include the social distribution of mobility, the conflicts between migration and bordering processes, forms of solidarity, language, and visuality.
His doctoral research focused on the irregularized mobility of Moroccan citizens to and across Europe. Within the MOBS project (https://mobsprin2020.org), he carried out multisited research in the island of Lampedusa and the region of Mahdia on social conflicts and transformations of the Mediterranean space. He is currently working in the SOLROUTES project (https://www.solroutes.eu), where he ethnographically explores the forms of solidarity and mutual help of the Palestinian refugee community in Cairo, Egypt.
He is part of the Visual Sociology Laboratory (https://www.laboratoriosociologiavisuale.it/new) and the research and militant collective OnBorders (https://onborders.altervista.org).
